Airport Festivities Raising Funds for Wishes

East Midlands Airport is making a list and checking it twice, with the launch of two Christmas challenges that aim to raise money for charity. The airport has launched a search for entertainers and local talented Christmas performers to take to the stage at the airport and delight the thousands of passengers travelling– raising money for their chosen charities in the process. Local choirs, bands, singers, dancers or even poetry readers are being challenged to take up slots in different locations around the terminal and perform to give a fun and festive welcome to passengers.

To mark the annual When you wish upon a Star Santa Express Flight to Lapland on 3rd December, the airport is also encouraging passengers and staff members to join in with its weekly Christmas Jumper Day that will run every Thursday throughout December. Corporate Fundraiser, Liz Credgington, said: “Taking part in the Christmas Jumper Day will raise funds to help When You Wish Upon a Star continue granting wishes, which is at the heart of everything we do. Christmas is a great time to support us, as we believe the festive season is an important time to create magical moments for our brave Wish children. The trip to Lapland gives the children, who are living with a life threatening illness, respite and time out from painful treatments to simply be a child for the day. It also gives parents a break and a chance to see their children smile, creating precious treasured memories which last a lifetime.”

Howard Ebison, Customer Service Director East Midlands Airport, explains: “Throughout the Christmas holidays, hundreds of thousands of people fly through our airport, so this year we want to make it an extra special one to remember and give something back to local communities. We're challenging all our passengers to join our staff members in wearing Christmas jumpers when travelling through the terminal every Thursday in December to help raise money for a worthwhile charity with which we have a long standing relationship. In addition, Christmas festivities will also take place around the terminal throughout December with local Christmas performances and even Santa Claus will making an appearance.”
